Dental Implants vs Bridges vs Dentures: Which Is Right for You?
Losing a tooth leaves you with three main replacement options, and each suits a different situation. Here is how they actually compare, beyond just the price tag.
Dental implants
An implant replaces the tooth root with a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, topped with a crown. It is the closest replacement to a natural tooth, functions independently without relying on neighbouring teeth, and can last decades with good care. The trade-off is a longer treatment timeline, since the bone needs time to heal around the implant, and it typically costs more upfront than the other options.
Bridges
A bridge fills the gap using the teeth on either side as support, with a false tooth suspended between two crowns. It is faster to complete than an implant and costs less initially. The downside is that it requires shaving down the two supporting teeth, which would otherwise be untouched, and those teeth now carry extra load.
Dentures
Dentures, whether replacing a few teeth (partial) or a full arch (complete), are the most affordable option and do not require surgery. They are removable, which some patients find convenient and others find inconvenient. They can also shift slightly with chewing, whereas implants and bridges are fixed in place.
How to choose
If you are missing a single tooth and want a long-term, independent solution, an implant is usually recommended if your bone health allows it. If cost or timeline is a concern but you still want a fixed solution, a bridge is a reasonable middle ground. If you are missing several teeth or want to avoid surgery altogether, dentures remain a practical, affordable choice.
The right option really depends on your bone density, budget, and how many teeth are missing. Message us on WhatsApp to book an examination and we will walk you through which option fits your case.
